KanjiVG, resampled
Stroke-order data for 6,430 kanji, derived from KanjiVG by Ulrich Apel.
This is a modified version of KanjiVG. It is published here so that anyone who receives it inside one of our applications can obtain it under the same licence, free of any technological restriction.
Download
kanjivg-derived.zip — 2.6 MB, containing the data, this provenance note and the full licence text.
The files are also served individually:
data/manifest.json is the index, and
data/{n}.json holds every kanji written with n strokes —
1.json through
30.json. The licence is at

Licence
The original work is © Ulrich Apel and licensed CC BY-SA 3.0.
This adaptation is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. CC BY-SA 3.0 §4(b) permits an Adaptation to be licensed under “a later version of this License with the same License Elements”, and 4.0 is that version.
Why 4.0 rather than 3.0
CC BY-SA 3.0 §4(a) forbids imposing “effective technological measures” that restrict a recipient’s exercise of the licensed rights. Applications distributed through the Apple App Store are delivered inside a FairPlay-encrypted binary, which is such a measure. CC BY-SA 4.0 §2(a)(4) waives that condition; 3.0 does not.
Relicensing the adaptation under 4.0 — which 3.0 expressly permits — and publishing it here, unencrypted, means every recipient of the app can obtain the same data under the same licence without any technological restriction at all.
What was modified
The original SVG path data was resampled: each stroke is re-expressed as a sequence of points at equal arc length, normalised so that a character’s combined bounding box fits a 100×100 square with its aspect ratio preserved. This is what allows a drawn stroke to be compared against a reference stroke point-for-point.
kvg:type stroke-class labels are carried through from the original
unchanged. No stroke was added, removed or re-ordered. The derivation is
deterministic and reproducible from the upstream release named below.
Contents
Each entry is {"k": kanji, "p": [path, …], "t": [class, …], "j": jlpt},
where t is index-aligned with p.
